had chicken and chips and its was the worst I ever had. the chicken ands chips were the frozen type, and gravy was so thin you didn't notice it on the plate.

"Pretty good..."
Christopher's
Close | More Info
I've been to Christopher's a couple of times mostly as a restaurant to fall back on when I need something quick for a date or small occasion. Their menu has a pretty wide selection that should please most people and it's not too pricey. Service tends to be professional and to the point but nice. It makes a pretty good staple when you need a restaurant you can count on.

"Kids love it"
Jungle Jim's
Close | More Info
This was our third time going to Jungle Jim's as a family and I finally had to write about it to let other parents know that this is possibly the best place to take kids in Newfoundland. They have all kinds of things for kids to do to keep them busy and the atmosphere is all about fun. The food is pretty good too and they have a menu that has something for everyone. Service is always friendly and we always have a good time for any occasion.

"another fav!"
Oliver's Restaurant

Now this place is comfy, its like being at home. When i want to just relax and have a hearty pasta or some good seafood this is my second home. Always guarantees a good nights sleep after. My wife always makes me go there for dinner on fridays and i am so thankful she enjoys it as much as i do.

"Good Mexican in St. John's!"
Zapata Ole Restaurant
Close | More Info
I finally found a good Mexican restaurant in St John's due to a friend of mine recommending it. I took my girlfriend there a couple of nights ago and we both had a pretty good time. The food seemed fresh and was served quickly and sizzling. I had the steak fajitas and she had the Mexican pizza. My fajitas were served still smoking hot on a metal serving plate with vegetables and sauces and was better than I had expected. I'm not sure how the pizza was but she finished it which is unusual for such a small frame. We'll definitely be going back!

"Best breakfast in town!"
Zachary's
Close | More Info
I've been going to Zachary's for breakfast for a long time and have never been disappointed with anything. Because they serve it all day long you can take your time getting there on weekends and you usually don't have to wait long to get a seat. The service is great with some friendly staff and the ambience is about what you'd expect for this kind of place. I don't recall ever having dinner there so I can't comment on that, but the breakfast is hardy and will keep you going for most of the day!

"Awesome Sandwiches"
Auntie Crae's
Close | More Info
Aunt Crae's serves up some of the freshest and best sandwiches in town. Not only do they offer a huge selection of sandwiches, but because it's located in what is essentially a bakery, you can grab all kinds of fresh baked and cooked goodies to take home. Get homemade jams, breads and more for dinners and lunches all week long! I usually stop by about once a week and stock up on a few necessary items to keep me going. They'll always have something worth going for and for every palate.

"One of the best"
Magnum & Stein's
Close | More Info
Magnum's has to be one of the best restaurants in town, not only for it's great food and service but for it's exciting but warm ambience and patrons. I'm usually there about twice a month for dinner and many more times for drinks after work at the bar and I always have a great time and meet some great people. The food is on par with some of the best in Canada that I've been to. If you go, try the Prawns in a Black Rum & Lime to start and the tenderloin for a main - you won't be disappointed!

"Amazing Evening"
The Cabot Club
Close | More Info
We weren't even staying at the Fairmont but a friend suggested we give the Cabot Club a try, and it was worth the trip. My wife and I enjoyed every aspect of the evening but the best part in my opinion is the table-side flambe service that they offer. Having your food flambeed right at your table guarantees some fresh dishes. The food was cooked just right and the atmosphere was perfect; not too noisy or bright and very conducive to good conversation. The service was great as well. We'll be going back for our anniversary I think, because the prices can get a little steep so it's best to go on ...

"Good Sushi"
Sun Sushi
Close | More Info
Sun Sushi continuously pumps out some of the better sushi I've had in St John's or almost anywhere else in Newfoundland. Great for lunch or dinner and especially take out to eat at home with a good movie! The selection is enormous so you're sure to get something new every time you go. Some of the hot food is not that great, but this is about the sushi! Highly recommended if you're in the mood for fresh, raw fish.

"Pretty Traditional"
India Gate Restaurant
Close | More Info
With a little Canadian flare, this Indian restaurant serves up some pretty good and traditional fare. I've been here on numerous occasions with the wife and we're always more than satisfied with our dinner. We usually like to order something different every time we go because they have a pretty extensive menu and so far everything's been pretty good. They have a great tandoori selection, which I highly recommend. We haven't been to the buffet yet as they only offer it during the weekdays, but from what I hear it's a great deal and the food is always fresh.

"Classic from the start"
Aqua Restaurant & Bar
Close | More Info
Aqua has only been around for about 6 years, but from the very start they were doing things right and every time I dine there I have a great experience. The dishes are always cooked to perfection and the staff are always polite and smiling. I've been there with groups of people and one on one with on a date, and every time I've had a great evening.

"Excellent Dinner"
Peter Belbin's Steakhouse
Close | More Info
My wife and I went here last weekend upon the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed in the slightest. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the service was extremely friendly and the food was cooked to perfection. Since this is a steakhouse, we both ordered beef dishes, I ordered the Steak & Ribs which came exactly as I wanted it - medium rare and my wife had the Boneless Prime Rib Steak which she seemed to enjoy very much. Everything was really great and made the evening perfect for us both. Highly recommended if you're looking to quash that steak craving!

"Great experience"
Restaurant 21
Close | More Info
We had an office group meet at 21 last night and had a great time. The atmosphere is very conducive to good conversation and of course the exceptional wine list helps. We ordered a multitude of different dishes and each stood out in its uniqueness. The service was very professional as well, and with us getting pretty loud after a couple of hours, they were able to control the table with common sense! I highly recommend 21 whether you're going as a group or one on one romance.

"Interesting unpredictability"
The Casbah
Close | More Info
I went with a group the other night, we each ordered something different and each of us were impressed with our meals. I had the chicken stuffed with spinach and feta which was very impressive in flavour and presentation. My mates seemed to enjoy their meals just as much. The service was spot-on and the ambience is loud and lively. Prices are very reasonable too.

"The best in Newfoundland?"
Ches's
Close | More Info
This could be the best fish and chips in Newfoundland, which would be quite the deal considering a lot of these places are crazed over outdoing the other restaurants. I've been coming to Ches's for many years and have never been disappointed. There's not much flare or experimentation with the food, they just do it better than the others. So if you're looking for the best fish and chips in Newfoundland, Ches's won't disappoint.
